This exhibition at the Library of Birmingham showcases internationally significant objects from the Shakespeare Memorial Library and juxtaposes Birmingham’s historic industrial identity with ideas for positive social action today. The exhibition challenges visitors to think about what culture means to them and how they themselves can effect change in the city.

The design is deliberately colourful and large scale. We took inspiration from the architecture of the library’s previous incarnations to create a repeating vector pattern overlaid on a palette of bright neon colours. All spray and stencil elements were created in the studio by hand using paints and laser cut plywood stencils. Typography and layout reference some of the original theatre playbills found in the library’s collections. As well as the exhibition graphics we designed the identity and marketing for the exhibition.
